RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process that can be completed in a short time frame. It's based on skills, knowledge and evidence you have already acquired over the years to meet the requirements for the qualification.

Evidence for RPL may include:

• Proven work experience
• Life experiences (including voluntary work and leisure pursuits)
• Previous study (Qualifications, industry training, professional development programs or units)
• References from qualified persons

RPL can be conducted via online delivery and through workplace training.

If a student fails to demonstrate competency in some units required to gain the qualification, Gap Training is used to gain competency in those units. It can be customised to suit the individual client needs. Up to 4 units of gap training are included in your RPL Fee. Additional fees apply for further gap training units.

3 months enrolment period to complete RPL.

Course

A Course is a process that can be completed in a longer time frame. It’s designed for those who have little or no previous experience in this field of qualification. The course will help train you to achieve the required skills and knowledge needed to gain this qualification.

Course training requires access to a workplace and tools. Please check the student handbook for the list of resources required for each unit of competency. If you require access to a workplace, you will need to inform National Skills prior to enrolment so we can arrange access to a workplace for you.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

This qualification provides you with the required skills and knowledge to become an experienced drafter and building designer who applies their skills to complex building design projects.

Practice at this level is underpinned by the ability to critically analyse and synthesise information from a range of sources to generate design solutions and manage the design project. Practitioners work without supervision to design, draft and document plans, specifications and documentation for building design projects on all classes of buildings, as defined by the National Construction Code (NCC), including those of Type A construction.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Entry points which demonstrate a candidate’s potential to undertake the CPP60420 Advanced Diploma of Building Design are:

• CPP50911 Diploma of Building Design, or
• CPP50921 Diploma of Building Design, or
• Demonstrated relevant vocational experience, skills and knowledge commensurate with the scope of work covered in the core units of CPP50921 Diploma of Building Design.

UNITS OF COMPETENCY

Total number of units = Eight (8)

• Six (6) core units
• Two (2) elective units

• BSBOPS502 Manage business operational plans
• CPPBDN6101 Produce compliant designs for Class 2-9 buildings up to three storeys
• CPPBDN6102 Prepare drawings for planning and building approval for Class 2-9 buildings up to three storeys
• CPPBDN6103 Evaluate construction materials, methods and services for Class 2-9 buildings up to three storeys
• CPPBDN6104 Determine compliance requirements for Class 2-9 building designs up to three storeys
• CPPBDN6105 Manage the tendering and contract administration process for a client

Elective Units of Competency

• BSBPMG430 Undertake project work
• CPPBDN6106 Produce building information modelling for building design projects

CPP60421 Advanced Diploma of Building Design

This qualification provides you with the required skills and knowledge to become a Building Designer covering work in complex building design projects.

Licensing Requirements:

To work as a Builder or Contractor in Australia you must have a licence or be registered.

A licence or registration may require a combination of technical qualification, experience, skills and knowledge prior to application. One step in the process of gaining your licence or registration is to complete training which has been approved by the licencing body in your State or Territory.

State and Territory jurisdictions may have different licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements. Relevant State and Territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.
