DURATION

RPL is a Fast Track  process that can be completed in a short time frame. It's based on skills, knowledge and evidence you have accquired over the years to meet the requirements for the qualification. Maximum 24 months enrolment period to complete.


CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

This qualification is designed to meet the needs of builders of small to medium-sized building businesses, as per the license requirements of State Regulators. It provides the knowledge and skills required to coordinate the building of the overall construction of medium rise buildings, including selecting contractors, overseeing work and its quality, and liaising with clients.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To gain entry to full course it is recommended you:

  • Completed Level 10 or Higher
  • Must be older than 18 years of age to enrol

To gain entry for RPL for the 10 units taken from BSB51319 Diploma of Work Health and Safety, it is recommended that you have:

  • Have been employed in the general construction industry and have a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in residential and commercial applications for RPL
  • Must be older than 18 years of age to enrol. A student younger would find it hard to have gained the level of knowledge and skills gained through life, work and study, that is required to meet the criteria of RPL

WHAT WILL I LEARN

This qualification provides you with the technical and management skills to become


DELIVERY

Although this is an RPL pathway, gap training will be conducted via distance and through workplace training. The learning component of the qualification is customised to suit the individual client needs. Accelerated learning is open to all participants providing that they are able to demonstrate competency in all units required to gain the qualification.

Upon enrolment, the student will be provided with an RPL Evidence Application to complete in their own time, which will enable them to provide evidence of their experience. Once the RPL Evidence Application has been completed and submitted to the Registered Training Organisation (RTO), then an assessor will check your file and contact you to arrange an interview.

Evidence for RPL may include:

  • Proven work experience
  • Life experiences (including voluntary work and leisure pursuits)
  • Previous study e.g. qualifications, industry training, professional development programs or units
  • References from qualified tradespersons

During your interview this will allow the student to explain the evidence provided, and allow the assessor to question the candidate on their knowledge skill and experience. The assessor may also conduct site visits to confirm the candidate’s level of knowledge and skill. If gaps in knowledge, skill or experience are identified, further training can be provided for the candidate to obtain the qualification. The duration of this training is dependent on the individual candidate’s prior and current work experience.


UNITS OF COMPETENCY

Total number of units = Ten (10)

  • Five (5) core units
  • Five (5) elective units.

  • BSBWHS513 Lead WHS risk management
  • BSBWHS515 Lead initial response to and investigate WHS incidents
  • BSBWHS516 Contribute to developing, implementing and maintaining an organisation’s WHS management system
  • BSBWHS519 Lead the development and use of WHS risk management tools
  • BSBWHS522 Manage WHS consultation and participation processes

Elective Units of Competency

  • BSBWHS512 Contribute to managing work-related psychological health and safety
  • BSBWHS514 Manage WHS compliance of contractors
  • BSBWHS520 Manage implementation of emergency procedures
  • BSBTWK502 Manage team effectiveness
  • ​BSBWHS521 Ensure a safe workplace for a work area

ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS/METHODS

Recognition of Prior Learning assessments are evidence-based. You will be assigned a qualified assessor who will be available to answer questions and support the RPL process. You must be able to provide evidence of your skills and knowledge for an assessor to deem you ‘competent’. Enrolling as an RPL candidate doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be successful in your application for recognition.

Students will be required to complete a series of assessment tasks successfully which may include a written exam, and/or practical demonstration/observation.
