BLR – Builder Low Rise Fact Sheet

This program covers building construction theory and practices related to low rise buildings.  This program will provide you with the knowledge and managerial skills to meet the technical qualifications for the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) Builder – Low Rise licence. Check with the QBCC on what the Builder – Low Rise licence allows you to build. This information is available on the QBCC website www.qbcc.qld.gov.au

Entry Requirements

This program does not have any specific entry requirements. However, completion of Year 12 English and Mathematics is recommended. The program meets the technical qualifications requirement of the QBCC Builder - Low Rise licence.

Study Duration and Enrolment Periods

Enrolments are taken on an ongoing basis. Students can enrol at any time 24/7 on-line, over the phone or in person during business hours. Enrolment is for a period of 12 months.

After successful completion of CPC40110 Certificate IV in Building & Construction (Building), you may continue with your studies by enrolling in CPC50210 Diploma of Building & Construction (Building). Some Certificate IV competencies count towards the Diploma program.

How to Enrol

Enrolment in this program is based on your completion of the Enrolment Form available on our website www.nationalskills.com.au. Look for: CPC40110 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) OR Builder Low Rise.

Also you can enrol in person with an assessor.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applicants may receive acknowledgment of their knowledge and experiences through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Evidence for RPL may include:

  • work experience
  • life experiences (including voluntary work and leisure pursuits)
  • previous study e.g. qualifications, industry training professional development programs or units

If you have successfully completed “BCG…” units in BCGBC40108 Certificate IV in Building and Construction through a College in QLD, credit transfers to this new program CPC40108 are available as shown below.

To Achieve the Qualification CPCBC40110 CERTIFICATE IV IN BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION (BUILDING) requires the completion of ALL 13 Core & 3 Elective Units of Competency (16 in Total) listed in COLUMN 1.

CREDIT TRANSFER & ELIGIBILITY FOR CREDIT in (CPC40110 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building)

If you have successfully completed ANY of the following Units of Competency or Qualifications listed in columns 3 OR 4 and you can produce Certified copies of your qualification you will NOT have to enrol in the corresponding Unit of Competency in COLUMN 1 to complete the full Qualification because you will be given Credit for that Unit.

You MUST send in your Certified copies of your qualification to National Skills so they can be put on your records.

Evidence of your Qualification could include: Certified - Certificates, Academic Transcript from the College you gained the qualification.

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to access, interpret and apply relevant building codes and standards applicable to the construction processes of residential and low-rise commercial buildings (‘low-rise’ licensing classification with reference to Class 1 and 10 construction and Classes 2 to 9 with a gross floor area not exceeding 2000m2, not including Type A or Type B construction). To successfully construct low-rise buildings requires a thorough knowledge of the purpose and content of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) coupled with the ability to interpret other codes and standards related to a specific building.

This unit specifies the outcomes required to conduct an OHS risk analysis, including the inspection of workplaces for hazards. Application of legal requirements includes the capacity to ensure compliance with all contractual requirements. CPCCBC4010B Apply structural principles to residential low rise constructions

 

This unit specifies the outcomes required to apply structural principles to the erection or demolition of low-rise residential structures using conventional methods. The unit addresses those structures classified by the Building Code of Australia as class 1 and class 10. Knowledge of the application of structural principles in accordance with the Australian Standards is essential. This core course is very lengthy but is critical to your understanding of construction.  There are six (6) competency assessments to be completed.  All are written assessments which are to include photographs from building sites, sketches of construction details and copies of diagrams from text and reference books.
